Unknown gunmen at early hour of Easter Sunday launched an attack at Yana Town in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi state and burnt a five-year-old girl to death. It was gathered that the gunmen launched the attack at about 2.30 am. The Police Public Relations Officer of Bauchi State Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident to
newsmen, said the gunmen set ablaze staff quarters, school bus of GGSS Yana, eight-man block for rank and file quarters, GSM masts for MTN, Globacom ,and Etisalat.
He said the hoodlums also attacked a branch of First Bank and destroyed the vault, adding that 15
vehicles were destroyed at the Shira LG secretariat as well as their conference hall.
“Apart from a five-year-old girl who was burnt to death, no other casualties were recorded as all the
students are intact while the private vehicle of the school principal was taken away by the hoodlums. Combined security forces are on their trail”, Mohammed said.
A security source who spoke to Daily Independent on condition of anonymity said” there are 195 girls writing the West African Examinations Council
(WAEC) examination in the school but they are safe, they don’t even know what happened.”
He added that soldiers from Bauchi and Jigawa States later ambushed the hoodlums and recovered some motorcycles, IEDs RPGs, and a green Hilux
van from them.
