An Ibadan Magistrate Court has sentenced a 27 year-old man, Wasiu Moshood, to two years imprisonment without an option of fine by for stealing a Blackberry phone.
The accused was said to have committed the offence during the commissioning of a new branch of Shoprite on Basorun MKO Abiola Way (former Ring Road) in Ibadan on Friday June 19, 2014.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate, O.A Amzat at the previous hearing, the convict pleaded guilty to the charges of stealing and was remanded in Agodi Prison till yesterday, the adjourned day.
The presiding Magistrate had said then that since the accused had pleaded guilty to the charges, he should be remanded at Agodi till the adjourned date.
As much as the Magistrate tried to obtain information from the accused on where he sold the phone to, he declined, claiming that he could not following which the court delivered its judgement.
It was gathered that the phone, estimated at
N45,000 belonged to a woman, Adekoya Falilat, who the convict reportedly beat to stupor for accusing him of theft. According to the prosecutor, Phillip Amusan, the offence was a violation of Section 390 of the Criminal Code of Oyo State, 2000.
